One Leader’s Journey Shows Exactly Why the Next 30 Years Matter Most

As we enter into PeaceJam’s 30th Anniversary year, we’re looking ahead — not just at what PeaceJam has accomplished, but at the young leaders who will guide the movement into its next chapter.
One of those leaders is Fay Pretty, whose story captures the heart of where PeaceJam is headed.
A Journey from Teen Participant to National Youth Leader
Fay attended her first PeaceJam conference in Winchester at just 17-years-old. She remembers walking into a room full of young people who cared just as deeply as she did about justice, community, and change.
“You realize you’re not alone. You’re surrounded by people fighting your fight, standing in your corner.”
Hearing Nobel Laureate Leymah Gbowee speak about perseverance lit a spark that never faded. Fay soon stepped into leadership roles, supporting youth at conferences, coordinating programs, and helping grow PeaceJam UK.
Today, she chairs the PeaceJam UK Youth Team, a group of young leaders leading sustainable social action projects across the UK. Learn more about the powerful work these youth leaders are doing by exploring their GlobalGiving reports.
“PeaceJam gives young people a family — a community that believes in them and gives them the tools to create change.”
Fay’s journey is not an exception; it’s the PeaceJam model at work:
Youth become leaders → leaders become mentors → mentors shape the future of the movement.
We Need Your Help Because The Next 30 Years Matter Most
PeaceJam is entering a new era — one defined by alumni-led growth, global expansion, and deeper connection across continents.
With your support, we’re building:
• A Pan-African PeaceJam network
• Stronger chapters in Europe and the U.S.
• Expanded alumni leadership pathways (like Fay’s)
• New curriculum tools for educators
• More youth conferences with Nobel Peace Laureates
• More access for youth in regions where peace education is urgently needed
This next chapter is bold, and it requires all of us.
