Acts of Peace to Celebrate International Women's Day

Every year on March 8, the world celebrates International Women’s Day, a global moment to honor the achievements of women and recommit to gender equality. Recognized by the United Nations, this day is not only about celebration. Around the world, women continue to lead movements for justice, advance scientific discovery, strengthen communities, and build peace in places facing deep division.
At Billion Acts of Peace, we know that sustainable peace cannot exist without gender equity. When women are empowered through education, opportunity, leadership, and healthcare, entire communities thrive. We take inspiration from the incredible Nobel Women who play an integral part in the PeaceJam and Billion Acts movement. International Women’s Day invites each of us to move beyond appreciation and into meaningful Acts of Peace that uplift and support women and girls.
Acts of Peace to Celebrate International Women’s Day
- Learn and Share Women’s Stories. Take time to learn about women leaders, peacemakers, scientists, artists, and changemakers — including the women Nobel Peace Laureates connected to Billion Acts. Share what you learn with friends, students, or on social media. Awareness builds inspiration, and inspiration builds action.
- Support Organizations that focus on women’s health, education, safety, and economic empowerment. Even small contributions of time, skills, or resources can create ripple effects in someone’s life.
- Choose to shop from women-owned and women-led businesses in your community or online. Economic empowerment is a powerful pathway to equality.
- Share a Personal Tribute. Post or publicly share a story about a woman who changed your life or strengthened your community — a teacher, mentor, mother, organizer, friend, or leader. Gratitude honors impact and inspires others to step into leadership.
- Sponsor a Girl’s Education. Education is one of the strongest foundations for peace. Sponsor a girl’s education or donate school supplies through a trusted organization. Access to learning opens doors not only for one student, but for future generations.
- Center Women’s Voices. Invite women speakers, facilitators, artists, and leaders into classrooms, panels, faith spaces, and community gatherings. Representation matters. When girls see women leading, they see what is possible.
This International Women’s Day, let’s honor women not only with words, but with action. Let’s choose Acts of Peace that expand opportunity, amplify voices, and create realities where every girl can dream boldly and every woman can lead freely.
