How the 2024 Billion Acts Fellows Are Changing the World — and How You Can Join Them

Adnan Jaber, co-founder of Dialogue in the Diaspora, saw his initiative expand into its fifth cohort. His dialogue program brings together young Palestinians and Israelis to discuss difficult topics with empathy and respect. “The Fellowship gave me financial and emotional support,” Adnan shared. “Those Zoom calls with the team were like cold water in the summer. I feel so much courage now to speak about nonviolence and its effectiveness.”
In Nigeria, Blessing Chime launched a workshop series that helped educate families about the dangers of child labor — an effort that directly impacted children’s lives and safety. “PeaceJam made those dreams a reality,” she said. “Every event we held this year, we owe to the support we received. It saved lives.”
Jake Shapiro, working in peacebuilding in Israel and Palestine, reflected on how important the fellowship community was during a difficult year. “It’s been a hard time, but being around people with energy and vision gave me hope. It helped me keep going.”
Vanessa Tsehaye, an Eritrean activist based in London, said the Fellowship provided a rare and vital space: “For the first time, the person doing the activism — me — was at the center. Not just the work. I felt supported, seen, and equipped to relaunch my organization after 12 years as volunteer-run. This Fellowship came at just the right time.”
Others, like Carolina Mueller, used their fellowship funding to reconnect with community partners, meet fellow changemakers in person, and find peace in the quiet moments of shared purpose. “I finally experienced a sense of community after so many years of isolation,” she said.
And from the Caribbean coast of Colombia, Profe Tiburon returned to his music and marine activism. With support from the Fellowship, he released an album called Peace Jamming and trained young people to become coral reef stewards. “We’re bringing youth from Guatemala, Uruguay, and Colombia together to witness science in action. It’s all thanks to this fellowship.”
